Regis College offers online MSN, DNP, and Post-Master’s Certificate programs in six different NP specializations:

  • Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP)
  • Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP)
  • Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP)
  • Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP)
  • Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)
  • Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP)

MSN entry points include BSN, RN (ADN Bridge), and RN with a non-nursing bachelor’s degree. Nurses may enter the DNP program with a BSN, MSN, or a non-nursing master’s degree. There are two Post-Master’s Certificate entry points: non-nurse practitioners and nurse practitioners who wish to earn a second specialty. MSN-prepared non-nurse practitioners may earn the DNP with a nurse practitioner specialization.

Coursework is offered 100% online with no campus visits and students complete practicums at approved facilities local to them. The NP programs prepare RNs for advanced practice nursing roles and doctor of nursing practice roles. Regis College seeks to educate nurses to become a positive influence on their profession both in relation to their patients, their families, and society, as well as other health care professionals.

Regis faculty teach from a perspective that every individual has inherent qualities of worth, dignity, and individuality. As such nurses must interact with others with respect and in a dynamic way. The course curriculum for the nurse practitioner degrees presents a sequence of both theoretical and clinical experiences to fully prepare the student for success in the nursing environment.

Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioners (AGPCNPs) serve in primary care settings with patients from young adults to the elderly but mainly work with older patients. They treat chronic illnesses and work to create care plans for their patients to improve their quality of life. This may include assessment, health education, and disease prevention. The AGPCNP curriculum meets the American Nurses Credentialing Center ANCC criteria for adult-gerontology nurse practitioner certification.

Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioners (AGACNPs) typically work with critically ill adolescents and adults in acute care settings. These may include intensive care units at hospitals, rehabilitation units, nursing homes, doctor’s offices, and community health clinics. AGACNPs may also follow patients into home care once released from a critical care facility. Because of the nature of patient illnesses, AGACNPs work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to create care plans for their patients.

Family Nurse Practitioners (FNPs) work with patients across the lifespan. FNPs may diagnose and treat acute and chronic illnesses. Through a holistic focus, FNPs promote healthcare education and preventive healthcare. The FNP curriculum meets the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) criteria for family nurse practitioner certification.

In the same manner, Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (PNPs) serve in diagnostic and treatment roles as well as preventive healthcare and education situations with pediatric patients (birth through adolescence. The PNP curriculum meets the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB) criteria for pediatric nurse practitioner certification.

Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners (PMHNPs) serve children and adults with mental health conditions in behavioral health settings, schools, and treatment facilities. PMHNPs work with health care teams to provide treatment and recovery services for patients with mental health and addiction issues. The PMHNP curriculum meets the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) criteria for family psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner certification.

Finally, Women’s Health Nurse Practitioners (WHNPs) serve women of child-bearing age to older adult women throughout their lifespan. By providing primary care to women, family planning and counseling services, wellness exams, health screenings, and delivering prenatal care, WHNPs serve in a variety of roles. They are also able to diagnose and treat acute illnesses. The WHNP curriculum meets the criteria of the National Certification Corporation (NCC) for women’s health nurse practitioner certification.

Nurse practitioners serve in a variety of settings including private clinics, schools, emergency centers, hospitals, long-term care facilities, home health care settings, and behavioral health facilities.

Regis College is accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE). The nursing programs are accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing. Regis College is located in Weston, Massachusetts.

Students from Louisiana, New York, Oregon, Tennessee, and Washington may not participate in the Regis online MSN, BSN to DNP, or post-master’s certificate programs. Residents of Louisiana, New York, Oregon, and Washington may not participate in the MSN to DNP. Interested students should contact the licensing board of their state of residence to determine if the program meets state requirements for NP licensure.

Study Plan: The MSN degrees can be completed in a little over two years for BSN students taking two courses per semester, 3 years for associate-level students, and 3.5 to 4 years for students with a non-nursing bachelor’s degree. The BSN to DNP can be completed in as few as 40 months. Post-Master’s Certificates for those without NP certification (non-NPs) can be completed in as little as 20 months and for NPs in as little as 12 months. MSN students are encouraged to enter the program in the Fall. Spring entry is an option by special approval only. BSN to DNP and Post-Master’s certificate students may begin the programs in the Fall, Spring, or Summer.

BSN to MSN Curriculum: The BSN to MSN curriculum comprises 46 to 49 credits depending on the specialization chosen. Four core courses must be completed: Nursing Theory; Concepts in Nursing Leadership; Advanced Nursing Research; and Health, Policy, Politics, and Perspectives. Once these courses are completed and the BS is granted, ADN bridge students go on to complete the MSN curriculum in the specialty area of their choice, including clinical hours.

RN to MSN Curriculum: This program is for RNs who hold a non-nursing bachelor’s degree and comprises 61 to 64 credits. The bridge program courses include Health Assessment; Evidence for Clinical Practice; Concepts and Challenges in Professional Practice; and Community-Based Nursing. Once the bridge courses are completed these students go on to complete the required courses for their MSN degree specialty.

BSN to DNP Curriculum: The DNP curriculum comprises 73 to 76 credits plus at least 1,000 clinical hours. Students also take the nurse practitioner specialty courses as listed above for the MSN.

MSN NP to DNP Curriculum (with second NP specialty) or MSN Non-NP to DNP (first NP specialization): The MSN NP to DNP program with a second NP specialty or MSN non-NP with first NP specialization comprises 58 to 61 credits depending on the specialization chosen. Required DNP courses include Informatics in Health Care; Advanced Epidemiology and Biostatistics; Culture and Health Perspectives; Advanced Research Methods for EBP I-II; and Scholarly DNP Project I-IV. In addition, students take 16 to 21 credits of specialty courses for their chosen specialization as well as 15 credits of role-specific courses. At least 1,000 clinical hours must be completed by the end of the program.

A gap analysis will be conducted to determine the exact curriculum required depending on prior education. Students who already hold one NP specialization may be able to transfer in courses such as Nursing Theory; Concepts in Nursing Leadership; Advanced Nursing Research; and Health, Policy, Politics, and Perspectives; Advanced Pathophysiology; Health Promotion-Disease Prevention; Advanced Clinical Pharmacology; Roles and Issues in Advanced Practice Nursing; and Advanced Health Assessment.

MS Non-Nursing to DNP-NP Bridge Program Curriculum: For students with a BSN and a master’s degree in a healthcare field other than nursing, the nurse practitioner DNP program comprises 70 to 73 credits. The following bridge courses are required in addition to DNP, role-specific, and nurse practitioner courses: Nursing Theory; Health Policy, Politics, and Perspectives; Advanced Nursing Research; and Concepts in Nursing Leadership. As with the MSN NP to DNP, a gap analysis will be conducted to determine the exact curriculum required depending on prior education.

Post-Master’s NP Certificate Curriculum: The Post-Master’s Certificates for those who have earned an MSN without NP certification comprise 37 to 40 credits. The Post-Master’s Certificate for those with APRN status (NPs) who are seeking a second specialty will range from 19 to 40 credits. The least amount of credits required for NPs who are earning a second specialty is 22 credits for the PMHNP certificate and 19 credits for the other specializations.

Regular courses are 3 credits each and are delivered on an 8-week semester schedule. The two clinical courses with the corresponding clinical practica are eight credits each and correspond to the specialty area chosen from the specializations listed above. Courses for the AGPCNP, AGACNP, FNP. PNP, PMHNP, and WHNP Post-Master’s Certificates follow along with the MSN curriculum, however, not all MSN courses are included. Students with APRN certification must meet with an academic advisor or the program director to determine the exact courses needed to complete the certificates and the timeline required.

Online Experience: Regis College utilizes Blackboard as its online Learning Management System (LMS). Courses are asynchronous and may include lectures, assignments, and assessments. Students participate in online discussion boards and use email and chat to communicate. Not all Regis College online classes use Blackboard. Students may utilize RegisAccess which gives them access to class schedules, grades, syllabi, and financial aid information. Online graduate students also have access to the SmartThinking 24-hour online tutoring service and 24/7 technical support.

On-Site Requirements: There are no on-site requirements for the NP programs as they are 100% online. Students complete clinicals locally.

Tuition is calculated based on credits, at the published tuition rate. Rates may change, so please check here for the latest tuition information. For programs with variable tuition rates, we use the rates for part-time students. “Resident” and “non-resident” refer to the student’s school-recognized state residency status. Tuition number represents the cost of tuition for the entire program, not per semester or year. Estimated total tuition does not include additional fees.
