What to Expect from the Campbellsville University Online MSN – FNP Program
Admission Requirements: Applicants must have earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited program with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA, as well as an unencumbered RN license. Before completing clinicals, students must have proof of proper immunization as well as a two-year CPR certification. Background checks are part of the admissions process, both for application and before clinical placements, and the School of Nursing may request drug and alcohol screening. Online applications must include official transcripts, a copy of RN licensure, documentation of at least 2,000 patient care hours within the past two years, resume or CV showing current position as a registered nurse, a 500-word professional goals essay, and three professional letters of recommendation. Students must also meet the technical and performance standards for working as a nurse. No GRE or GMAT is required.
State Restrictions: While Campbellsville University accepts students from most states into their MSN – FNP program, applicants outside of Kentucky should check with their state Board of Nursing to be aware of the preceptorship requirements in their state while attending an out-of-state university, as well as state licensure requirements in their desired state of practice, to make sure they are eligible to study with Campbellsville University. At this time, the nursing program does not accept students from Massachusetts or Puerto Rico.
Study Plan: Courses last eight weeks each and start dates land in the Fall and Spring. The MSN – FNP can be completed in about two years on a part-time basis. A minimum grade of B is required in all nursing classes. There are no on-site requirements and clinicals are completed local to the student.
MSN – FNP Curriculum: The online MSN – FNP program comprises 45 credits and at least 660 clinical hours. Courses include Leadership and Role Development for Advanced Nursing Practice; Health Care Delivery and Policy; Advanced Health Assessment and Diagnostic Reasoning; Advanced Pharmacology; Healthcare Informatics and Clinical Decision-Making; Advanced Pathophysiology; Theory and Research for Evidence-Based Practice; Investigative Project; Health Promotion and Disease Prevention–Population Health; Care of Adults Across the Lifespan I-II; Care of Women, Children, and Adolescents I-II; and Synthesis of Advanced Practice Care of Patients in Primary Settings–Practicum I-II.
Online Experience: Each new online student is enrolled in an online orientation consisting of four modules that walks students through the online learning platform, technology issues, email use, and the student information system. Campbellsville University utilizes Moodle, through Learning House, as its online Learning Management System (LMS) and advises students to have high-quality products to ensure smooth online learning delivery. At a minimum, students must have a laptop, mobile device, and a reliable high-speed internet connection. In addition, it is recommended to have access to a digital camera or a digital scanner. Student support services include academic support, an online bookstore and library, financial aid services, technical support, and career support services.
On-Site Requirements: There are no on-site requirements for the MSN – FNP program as all coursework is 100 percent online with clinical preceptorships completed at approved facilities local to the student.
