Admission Requirements: Applicants to the School of Nursing at Husson University must hold a current, unencumbered RN license. A minimum of two years of clinical nursing experience is required. More work experience is highly recommended. Application materials include an application, application fee, official transcripts, proof of RN licensure, a resume or CV, and three letters of recommendation. Students will also have a personal interview with the Graduate Nursing Admissions Committee.
Other requirements include a background check and proper immunizations. Applicants to the MSN program must hold a bachelor of science in nursing degree (BSN) from an accredited institution or program with a 3.0 or higher GPA. Applicants to the certificate program must hold a master of science in nursing (MSN) from an accredited institution or program with a minimum GPA of 3.0. All students must have completed undergraduate statistics and health assessment courses. No GRE or GMAT is required.
State Restrictions: Husson University accepts students from most states and is an NC-SARA participant, and their programs are recognized in 49 states and Puerto Rico. However, the program may not meet state licensure requirements in the following states: California, Colorado, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Nevada, New Jersey, Oregon, Utah, Virginia, and Washington. Students in all states outside of Maine should contact the College of Health and Pharmacy School of Nursing at Husson University to verify enrollment eligibility. In addition, prospective students should contact their state licensing board to determine if the program meets state requirements for NP licensure.
Study Plan: The MSN program can be completed in approximately two to 2.5 years, including summers. The Post-Master’s Certificate program may be completed in as little as 18 months, depending on the number of transferred credits. Start dates land in the Fall, and courses last 15 weeks each. During the summers, students come to campus for a 1-week immersion. The program culminates with a Graduate Nursing Capstone course.
MSN Core Curriculum: Core courses for the MSN program include Theories and Roles for Advanced Nursing Practice; Advanced Pathophysiology; Socio-Cultural Perception of Addiction and Population Health; Advanced Pharmacotherapeutics; Strategy and Analysis of Organizational Process; Advanced Evidence-Based Practice; Healthcare Information and Technology; Advanced Health Assessment; Public Health Policy Issues and Challenges; and Graduate Nursing Capstone.
- FNP Specialty Curriculum: The FNP specialization comprises 48 credits and requires the completion of 540 clinical practicum hours. Courses for this track include Family Health I: Adult-Gerontology Health; Family Health II: Family-Centered Care of Women, Infants, and Children; and Family Health III: Integrating Primary Care.

Post-Master’s Certificate Curriculum: The Post-Master’s Certificate program consists of up to 48 credits for the FNP or AGACNP tracks and 51 credits for the PMHNP track, depending on the number of transferrable credits from the earned MSN degree. Typically students complete 18 credits for the FNP and AGACNP tracks, and 21 credits for the PMHNP track. Courses follow the required specialty courses and clinical hour requirements for the MSN program. An analysis is completed upon acceptance to determine the total number of courses and credits needed to earn the certificate.
