What to Expect
Admission Requirements: Applicants to the MSN-FNP program must hold a BSN from an accredited institution with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale. Undergraduate or graduate statistics must have been completed with a grade of B or higher.
Application materials include one reference, a statement of purpose, official transcripts, and proof of a New York State RN license. Applicants must also provide evidence of professional nursing experience in direct patient care before beginning clinical practicums.
State Restrictions: Manhattanville University requires that all nursing clinical practicums be completed in NYC-area hospitals. The MSN-FNP program leads to New York State licensure. Students can seek national FNP certification and licensure in other states upon graduation.
Study Plan: The MSN-FNP program can be completed in 24 months or more, with most students completing it in seven semesters of part-time study, including summers. Students come to the Purchase, New York, campus for one, three-day immersion during the Advanced Health Assessment course. Start dates land in the fall, spring, and summer, and courses last seven weeks each. Three clinical practicums are also included, as well as preparation for the national FNP certification exam through the Fitzgerald FNP Certification Review Course. The program culminates with a comprehensive exam.
MSN – FNP Curriculum: The online MSN-FNP program comprises 42 credits, plus 540 clinical hours. Core courses include the theoretical basis for advanced nursing practice roles; leadership, quality management, safety, and health policy; research for advanced nursing practice; and ethical principles in healthcare. APRN courses include advanced pharmacology; advanced pathophysiology; advanced physical examination and diagnostics fundamentals; and advanced physical examination and diagnostics lab.
FNP specialization courses include advanced family nursing practice I-III; advanced family nursing practicum I-III; advanced family nursing practice seminar I-II; and advanced family practice nursing seminar III with a comprehensive examination.
Online Experience: Manhattanville University delivers online courses through Blackboard, including synchronous and asynchronous components. Courses may include recorded lectures, videos, discussion boards, assignments, assessments, online chats, and online group sessions. Students have access to many of the same services as on-campus students, including academic advising, financial aid counseling, career counseling, library and bookstore services, and technical support.
On-Site Requirements: MSN-FNP students come to the Purchase, NY, campus for one three-day campus immersion. The coursework is online, and clinicals are completed in NYC-area hospitals.

Financial aid may take the form of Federal Stafford Loans and Graduate PLUS Loans according to the FAFSA, private loans, and outside scholarships and grants. Graduate students may also inquire with their employers about the possibility of a tuition reimbursement program or tuition discounts.
