University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Online Nurse Practitioner Programs – AGACNP, FNP
The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor offers two CCNE-accredited online master of science in nursing (MSN) degree programs: adult-gerontology acute care nurse practitioner (AGACNP) and family nurse practitioner (FNP)
The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor online MSN programs are designed for working professionals who need a flexible, affordable curriculum that thoroughly prepares them to advance in their nursing careers. Both programs feature 100 percent online coursework. The education students complete is crafted in response to current trends in the nursing profession. A low faculty-to-student ratio provides students with plenty of one-on-one attention. Individuals inspired to enter nursing due to their Christian faith will likely find the Christ-centered atmosphere of the program and faculty appealing.
UMHB is also noteworthy due to its designation as a Military Friendly® School with Silver distinction by VIQTORY media 2023-2024. Schools receive such designations after being assessed by evaluating both public data and proprietary data collected through the Military Friendly® Schools survey.
The adult gerontology acute care nurse practitioner MSN program trains students to provide comprehensive healthcare for adult patients throughout the human lifespan. Students learn via online coursework and hands-on practicum experiences. They can participate in on-site skills labs.
Graduates are prepared to take both the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) certification exams. UMHB is not currently accepting applications for the AGACNP program. Interested individuals should contact the school directly for updates on when the program may again be admitting students.
The family nurse practitioner MSN program trains nurses to care for both individuals and families throughout the lifespan. The curriculum features a combination of Christian-based principles and evidence-based nursing practices. Graduates are prepared to meet the physical, mental and spiritual health needs of patients of diverse circumstances and needs. Graduates are prepared to sit for the ANCC or the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) certification exams.
All nursing degree programs offered by the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
What to Expect from the UMHB Online NP Programs
Admission Requirements: Admission requirements for the two MSN programs are identical. To be eligible for the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor’s online MSN programs, applicants must possess a bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) degree from a regionally accredited college or university and have at least a 2.75 cumulative GPA. An interview and letters of reference are also required for those with a GPA between 2.75 and 2.99. Applicants with a GPA of at least 3.00 must not fulfill such a requirement.
Applicants must also have an active, unencumbered RN license in the state where they reside and where they will complete site-based experience and a minimum of two years of work experience.
To apply, individuals must complete an online application, pay an application fee, and submit transcripts from all previously attended academic institutions. No GRE/GMAT scores are required for either of these programs.
State Restrictions: The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor accepts applicants residing throughout the United States. Applicants should always check with the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and the respective state where they plan to practice to determine what training and certification or licensure requirements they must meet to practice. These nursing programs are not open to international students.
Study Plan: The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor’s online MSN programs are designed for completion within as little as 16 months. Students may choose from one of six start dates in the spring, summer, and autumn. Each academic term is seven weeks in length.
MSN Curriculum: The AGACNP and FNP MSN programs both require the completion of eight core courses. These courses cover topics such as theoretical perspectives, nursing research, health care policy, pathophysiology, pharmacology, health assessment, and more. Students then complete courses specific to their selected program track.
AGACNP Specialization Courses: The 45-credit-hour MSN AGACNP curriculum consists of eight core courses and seven AGACNP courses. Examples of AGACNP-specific courses include diagnostic reasoning and advanced nursing care of the acutely ill adult. Upon completion of all AGACNP specialization courses, students will have completed 630 clinical hours of training.
FNP Specialization Courses: The 45-credit-hour FNP program curriculum consists of eight core courses plus seven FNP specialization courses. FNP-specific courses cover topics including pediatric health, women’s health, and family health. Completing the FNP specialization practicum courses requires 630 clinical hours.
Online Experience: The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor online MSN programs make it easier for busy nursing professionals to complete an advanced degree while continuing to fulfill existing professional and other commitments. The accelerated online MSN programs feature courses that are seven weeks in duration. Multiple start dates, short course lengths, and 100 percent online coursework make creating a feasible learning schedule easy.
On-Site Requirements: The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor MSN programs feature fully online coursework. Clinical practicum requirements, however, must be completed in person in suitable placement settings. Applicants should contact the university directly for information on how practicum placements are arranged.
