UTEP Online Nurse Practitioner Programs

The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) School of Nursing offers online MSN and Post-Master’s Certificate programs with Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP), Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (PNP-AC), Pediatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (PNP-PC), and Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) specializations. The Post-Master’s Certificates are offered to those with or without advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) certification, and as such, credit requirements may differ.

Nurse practitioner students may be required to visit campus up to nine times during specialty courses. In addition, the required clinical preceptorships may be completed at approved sites local to the student. The programs also include innovative simulation labs.

AGACNPs serve adults in critical care and chronic healthcare situations, including emergency rooms, intensive care units (ICUs), ambulatory facilities, surgery units, outpatient facilities, rehabilitative care units, urgent care centers, palliative care, and hospice situations. FNPs serve patients across the lifespan, promoting wellness and diagnosing and managing acute and chronic illnesses.

Acute Care PNPs serve patients up to age 21 with critical, acute, and chronic illnesses. They typically work in hospitals, ICUs, emergency rooms, subspecialty clinics, and in-home health care. Primary Care PNPs also serve patients through age 21 with health promotion, child development, and in managing the well, chronically ill, and acutely ill child. NNPs provide care to critically ill or high-risk infants who may have been born prematurely or have heart abnormalities, low birth weight, infections, or other high-risk conditions.

The curriculum for the UTEP online NP programs is aligned with the Consensus Model for APRN Regulation: Licensure, Accreditation, Certification and Education, the Essentials of Master’s Education in Nursing, and the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties (NONPF).

Upon graduation, students are eligible to take their respective nurse practitioner certification exams through the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), or the National Certification Corporation (NCC).

The UTEP NP programs are accredited through the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). UTEP is located in El Paso, TX, and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).

Tuition is calculated based on credits, at the published tuition rate. Rates may change, so please check here for the latest tuition information. For programs with variable tuition rates, we use the rates for part-time students. “Resident” and “non-resident” refer to the student’s school-recognized state residency status. Tuition number represents the cost of tuition for the entire program, not per semester or year. Estimated total tuition does not include additional fees.
